Grease Trap Maintenance

Cleaning grease traps prevent fat, oil and grease (FOG) from clogging drainage pipes and prevents raw sewage backups.

Grease trap cleaning service pumps your grease trap, eliminating the odor and safety problems associated with poorly maintained grease traps. Unlike some services that just skim the trap or leave hardened deposits, Premier Grease, grease trap pumping technicians clean the entire grease trap and scrape away hardened grease. This thorough cleaning means there's no accumulation of old grease, which can cause unpleasant odors. Speak with your local premier Grease professional about our grease removal services.

How to Clean the Grease Trap

Step 1: Slowly remove the lid of grease trap with a pry bar, but do very slowly. Moving too fast could damage the gasket lying underneath the lid. Once the lid has been removed, inspect the grease trap to familiarize it with the parts.

Step 2: Grab a measuring stick and place it into the trap until it reaches the bottom. Give it a quick twirl to allow for some of the greases to accumulate on the stick. Remove the measuring stick, read the measurement of grease is inside of the trap, and record the number in your ‘FOG pump out report’ (which you should be doing as it is required by the EPA). Mail this report to the address listed on the report itself once the cleaning has been finished.

Step 3: Remove any standing water within the grease trap using a small bucket. Consider holding this water in this bucket until the end so you can avoid dumping it down the drain with any oils that are possibly attached.

Step 4: Remove the collected grease, oils, and sludge from the grease trap using a small bucket or scoop of your choice. All of this waste should be placed in heavy-duty plastic trash bags that can handle liquids. Scrape the sides of the trap clean — a wet vacuum can be perfect for this cleaning (you may have to make this a designated grease trap vacuum if you do so).

Step 5: Scrub down the grease trap using some good old fashioned soap, warm water, and a metal scrubber. Once cleaned, rinse the screens and removable parts with water. Replace all of the parts you just cleaned along with the lid. As soon as you’re done, make a copy of the FOG report for your own personal records — and you’re all set!

Attention all restaurants, delis, and other foodservice businesses — your grease trap needs to be cleaned! If your business’s plumbing system is experiencing frequent clogs and slow draining sinks, you could have a buildup of grease. Give us a call so we can help your business get back to working the way it should be.

Premier Grease is committed to meeting and exceeding your expectations when it comes to cleaning commercial kitchen hood & exhaust cleaning procedures.

Cooking Oil Recycling- process & benefits

Cooking Oil Recycling- process & benefits

It’s no secret that human beings have harmed the environment and it is degrading with every new day. We are facing issues like global warming, pollution, decaying of natural resources and whatnot. In the times when every resource is crucial to us, we must restore them in the most efficient way possible. This is where recycling comes in handy. From paper to plastic bottles, there are several waste products that are more beneficial when recycled rather than become a part of the garbage pile.

Today, we are going to discuss recycling the used cooking oil. We will discuss the process followed by cooking oil recycling companies to reduce waste in this category. Also, we will inform you of the easy techniques you can use at home to achieve used cooking oil recycling in an efficient manner.

Why Recycle Cooking Oil?

  • The restaurants prepare food in large amount, hence they have used cooking oil in large quantities. They can utilize this opportunity to earn by selling the used cooking oil  to commercial oil recycles.

  • Bio-fuel- causes clean burning; consequently, if cooking oil is being reformed into bio-fuel then it can be used in most diesel engines.

  • The cooking oil is greasy in its nature and form, henceforth, if we pour that greasy oil down the drain, it will block your pipes or cause damage to your city’s sanitation pipes overall.

How to recycle cooking oil?

  1. You can assign a container in the house for used cooking oil. It can be anything like discarded cans or old utensils. Keep in mind to label it so that no one accidentally uses it.

  2. Keep collecting the used oil in that container. Try to filter out any food crumbs while you are pouring the oil in the container.

  3. Try finding a cooking oil recycling company near you and contact them.

  4. If you can’t locate a company then you can call the local fire department to see if they accept used oil.

  5. The last option is to seal the container containing cooking oil and dispose of in the garbage if any other option of recycling is not available in your community.

Benefits of recycled cooking oil:

  • It can be reconditioned on-site to prolong its life,

  • Can be processed and burned for energy recovery

  • Can also be used in refinery production.

  • Is helpful for driving a circular economy by re-refining the oil.

  • Removing impurities can turn it useful for new lubricants as a base stock.

Recycling used cooking oil helps to create a sustainable environment and we all should put in our efforts to create a happy and healthy environment.

Important Factors to Bear in Mind, While Hiring Restaurant Hood Cleaning

The Regular cleaning of your commercial kitchen's exhaust system is a very essential part of maintaining a safe and efficient cooking operation. And keeping the duct system and hood filters free from excess grease buildup is also required by law, as outlined in NFPA Standard 96.

So, what should the owners look for, while hiring Restaurant Hood Cleaning

The First and Foremost, Professionals recommend, to use a cleaning service that strictly adheres to National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 96 standards. This will help you to ensure that your operation is fire code compliant and safe.

Besides, whether you have already hired a hood cleaning company or for now thinking about to hire them, here are few factors and things that you should expect from a professional and reliable hood cleaning services:

Signs When Commercial Kitchen Needs Range Hood Cleaning Services

Keeping cook tops and food preparation areas spotless is extremely crucial for hygiene reasons. Most restaurant owners understand the basic importance of this, and that's why they prefer to engaging in a regular commercial kitchen cleaning schedule.
And Here’s the reason...
Grease and dust can build up in range hood fans and even filters quickly, posing a potential fire hazard. And Grease is highly flammable, so the risk of it catching alight and sparking a kitchen fire are increased if the residue build-up is not removed properly on regular basis.
To remove the excess grease, the kitchen’s hood and ventilation system provide a layer of protection in eliminating air contaminants and odors caused by cooking. So it’s essential and important for business and home owners to take care of the filters and fans so that they operate effectively. They also need to be cleaned properly to minimize health and safety risks, said by professional hood services companies.
However, even with regular or periodically proper maintenance, there are times when a hood fan or filter will need to be replaced completely.
Here are some further signs to look for that could indicate a hood fan or filter may need to be replaced include:
  • You notice damage on the filter, during a routine cleaning
  • The vent fan no longer draws smoke or cooking smells out of the kitchen as effectively
  • The exhaust/hood fan makes unusual sounds or stops turning completely
The risk of an exhaust or hood fan failing during operating hours could be devastating to any commercial kitchen operation. The risk of fire is dramatically increased, but there is also the problem of filling the kitchen and dining area with smoke.
How long will this cleaning service take?
A standard range hood cleaning takes just 3 to 4 hours. However, there are loads of factors that determine how long it takes- Like the length of time between cleanings, the size of the kitchen, and the number of hoods or fans all factor into how long it will take for the job to be completed.

Oil Recycling Services: Preparing Used Cooking Oil into Biodiesel

Biodiesel, a renewable and substitute for petroleum fuel, is a useful source of energy. When burned, biodiesel produces a large amount of energy use in transporting vehicles and other applications, also creating less pollution to the environment.

With some techniques, we can easily transform used cooking oil into biodiesel. You can make an investment, by preparing cooking oil into biodiesel, through the help of the cooking oil recycling company.

Procedures to Make Biodiesel Using Used Cooking Oil

  • Collect Used Cooking Oil
Take a container and pour used cooking oil into it ensuring that the container is well dried and clean. Before selecting any container, check the presence of cracks, leaks, and tightness.
  • Examine
In the examination procedure; check the presence of particulate in used oil. Also, check the appearance, whether it is darker as compared to normal oil. Used cooking oils, with a milky appearance, should not be preferred for the conversion process as such oils create intervention during the biodiesel conversion process.
  • Filter

Heating Oil

Heating oil decreases the viscosity creating better fluidity; you can heat up to 95 degrees Fahrenheit. Follow safety measures while pouring oil to prevent the spillage; you can use safety gloves, aprons and, other precautionary measures.

Use coffee filters or cheesecloth to separate solid particulate from the used oil.

Reheating Oil

Reheat the filtered oil to 140 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature can be recorded with the help of a cooking thermometer. Reheating of oil helps in removing water content from oil (useful for later conversions of the biodegradable process).
  • Further Settlement for better Rectification
Allow oil to stand for an hour. This will help in settlement of water extracts from oil. Now, transfer the screened oil content into another container.
  • Perform Acidification Test (Prefer Titration Method)
  • Mix lye and Distilled Water
The ratio of lye to distilled water should be 1/1000. For example, you can add one gram of lye into distilled water.

Perform the above-given procedure in a well-ventilated room.
  • Performing the Test with Isopropyl Alcohol
Take a separate container, and add one ml of filtered oil into the 10ml isopropyl solution. Stir the mixture until it shows clear mixture.
  • Adding Phenolphthalein Solution
It will act as a pH indicator (on the base of 8.5). Put two drops of phenolphthalein solution in the oil and alcohol mixture.

Adding 0.1% Lye Solution

Add 0.1 lye solution with another mixture (alcohol, oil and, phenolphthalein solution). Stop dripping the lye solution when the mixture turns pink or magenta color.

After checking the oil’s acidity, one can easily convert the rest oil into biodiesel using filtered oil, lye and methanol.

Also, you can take the help of oil recycling services for recycling and reuse of used oil into biodiesel. With this little investment, you can make a passive income.
